Sun Realty has been managing Outer Banks vacation homes from Carova to Hatteras Village for decades. Their 4×4 portfolio is concentrated in Carova and the surrounding 4×4 communities just north of where the pavement ends in Corolla. While their overall company footprint stretches the length of the Outer Banks, the homes covered on this page are the ones requiring a 4WD vehicle to reach.

Sun Realty’s 4×4 Inventory

Sun Realty currently lists 17 vacation rentals in the Carova / 4×4 Beaches category. Because there are no condominium complexes in the 4×4 area, the smallest homes Sun Realty offers there are three-bedroom houses, and their inventory expands up to nine-bedroom homes. Property codes give a hint about location: SWB-prefix homes are in Swan Beach, PH-prefix in Penny’s Hill, CV-prefix on the canal in Carova, and CB-prefix in Carova Beach proper. All Sun Realty 4×4 homes come equipped with fully-stocked kitchens and house necessities.

Beach Parking Permits and Check-In

Sun Realty issues Currituck County Beach Parking Permits through their Corolla check-in office. Two permits per home are standard. Important detail: Sun Realty requires that permits be returned to the rental office before you leave the Outer Banks, so they can be reissued to the next week’s guests. This is one of the more guest-friendly programs in the area, since it means you don’t have to source permits yourself before your trip.

The permit window runs roughly May through September each year, with 300 permits available per week at $50 each. If your group needs more than two and you can’t get them through Sun Realty, the Currituck County application is at co.currituck.nc.us/beach-parking.

Turn Days and Operational Details

Sun Realty 4×4 homes run on both Saturday and Sunday turn days, depending on the property. Their individual listing pages mark turn day clearly (look for “Saturday Turn Day” or “Sunday Turn Day” in the property header). For Saturday turnover homes, plan your Beach4x4 vehicle pickup that morning. For Sunday turnover, you have an extra day of flexibility.

Sun Realty’s own 4×4 driving guidance is direct and useful: a 4-wheel drive vehicle is mandatory; lower tire pressure to 20 PSI before driving on the sand; no AWD or 2WD vehicles will make it through. They reinforce the same point we do — flat, packed sand in photos isn’t representative of what you’ll encounter in real conditions.

How Beach4x4 Pairs with a Sun Realty Stay

If your Sun Realty home has a Saturday turn day, pick up your Beach4x4 rental at our lot at 2101 Colington Road, Kill Devil Hills any time between 7am and 8pm. We’re open 7 days a week. Drive north on Highway 12 to the Corolla ramp, air down to 18-20 PSI at the access, and you’re about 30 to 45 minutes from check-in at most Carova homes. Our weekly rate is $1,338 for any vehicle (Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators seat 5; Nissan Armadas seat 8), both ORV permits included, no pet fees.
