Beach Realty’s About Carova Beach reference is the kind of page first-time 4×4 guests should bookmark before arrival. It covers details most companies leave to chance:

  • Tire pressure — Air down to 18-20 PSI before the ramp, air up at the exit. They explicitly note that AWD and 2WD vehicles are not suitable.
  • Trash pickup schedule — May 1 through September 30: Wednesday and Saturday. October 1 through April 30: Wednesday only. Roll bins out the night before.
  • Parking restriction — The first 1.5 miles north of the 4×4 ramp is no-parking. Park in the designated middle-strand areas only.
  • Beach sunset rule — After sunset, the entire beach becomes a driving lane. Flatten sand structures and remove all belongings or risk losing them.
  • Driver requirements — Drivers must be at least 16 with a valid license. ATVs are not permitted; personal watercraft are allowed only on the sound.
  • Speed limits — 35 mph on the beach, 15 mph within 300 feet of people.

Wild Horse Guidance

Beach Realty reinforces the same wild horse rules every guest should know: stay at least 50 feet away from the Corolla wild horses at all times, do not feed them, and report any harm or harassment. As they note, the wild Colonial Spanish Mustangs have lived on this stretch of beach for over 400 years and are protected by Currituck County ordinance.
