Twiddy & Company is the largest vacation rental management company operating on the Outer Banks 4×4 beach. Their portfolio north of the Corolla pavement spans more named communities than any other company, and their per-community landing pages are the deepest published anywhere. If you’re trying to figure out what makes one stretch of 4×4 beach different from another, the Twiddy site is a good place to start.
Twiddy’s 4×4 Communities
Twiddy lists seven distinct 4×4 communities on their Outer Banks 4×4 hub page, each with its own neighborhood guide and home listings:
- Carova Beach — The northern-most community of the 4×4 beaches, approximately 8 miles from the access ramp, stretching north about 3 miles to the Virginia border. Twiddy’s largest 4×4 inventory by far, with dozens of oceanfront, semi-oceanfront, and canalfront homes.
- Swan Beach — About 3 miles north of the ramp, spanning roughly one mile.
- North Swan Beach — On the north side of the Currituck National Wildlife Refuge, just south of Carova Beach.
- Ocean Beach — One of the smaller named communities, with oceanside homes well-suited to families.
- Penny’s Hill Beach Club — Approximately 2.5 miles north of the ramp, named for the historically significant large sand dune.
- Seagull Beach — A quieter, less-developed stretch within the 4×4 area.
- Swan Island Estates — A small cluster of prestigious homes on the north side of the Currituck National Wildlife Refuge.
What Twiddy Includes for 4×4 Guests
Two 4×4 parking passes are included with each Twiddy 4×4 vacation home. The passes are placed in a red envelope in the home’s kitchen. These passes are required to park on the beach between the second Saturday in May and the last Saturday in September. They are not required just to drive across the beach to your house.
Twiddy publishes per-home community details covering allowed items (beach tents, RVs, boats, trailers), ATV restrictions (not allowed), and trash and recycling guidance. The trash and recycling center is located at 2030 Ocean Pearl Road in North Swan Beach, just past mile marker 20. If a home’s bins overflow, guests can text 252-888-2598 for trash relief assistance.

Twiddy operates offices at 1142 Ocean Trail in Corolla and 1181 Duck Road in Duck. Their reservations line is 866-457-1190, available 9am to 5pm. How Beach4x4 Pairs with a Twiddy Stay
Most Twiddy 4×4 check-ins fall on Saturdays. If you’re flying in or driving down without a 4WD vehicle, plan to pick up your Beach4x4 rental in Kill Devil Hills before driving north to Corolla. Our weekly rate is $1,338 for any vehicle, both ORV permits are included, and we’ll walk you through airing down at the lot before you head to the ramp.
